How was the application and admission process in TMU?

The lush, spacious TMU campus provides a tranquil and cheerful environment that aids in the adjustment from a bustling city.The application seemed well-organised and straightforward.  For me, the most important step was reaching out to my prospective professor ahead of time to discuss my research ideas. I was scared at first, but they were really welcoming and provided clear guidance. The paperwork required some patience, and I had to study hard for the exams, but the fact that TMU provides old exam papers available online was a big help! Looking back, the entire procedure seemed fair and completely achievable if you just prepared step by step.

How was your experience adjusting to life as a foreign student in Japan?

Honestly, the first month was a little overwhelming—everything, from the subway system to the convenience store food, was new to me! But TMU helped the transfer go far more smoothly than I had expected. Furthermore, the Minami - Osawa campus  is so green and calm that it quickly became my favourite place to unwind after a long day. Japan quickly became like a second home for me.

How was your experience doing research as part of your laboratory?

My lab really felt like a second family. The best thing was the diversity—my labmates came from all over the world, so we had fascinating cultural discussions during lunch breaks. Academically, my supervisor was really encouraging while still allowing me to develop my own ideas.  

What challenges did you face as a student and how were you able to cope with them?

There were difficult days—mostly dealing with the language barrier in daily life. But I discovered that it is quite acceptable to seek for aid. So, I enrolled up for a free Japanese language class. And I studied Japanese at a basic level.

Would you recommend prospective students to do their graduate program in TMU?

TMU is the place to go if you want a university that not only provides a top-tier education but also values its international students. You get cutting-edge research, a beautiful campus, and an extremely supportive environment all in one.
