My journey at Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) as a doctoral student in entomology has been a rigorous yet incredibly rewarding milestone. While the application process for the Tokyo Global Partner Scholarship was demanding, the university’s clear administrative support made it manageable. Adjusting to life in Tokyo required adapting to colder winters and local systems, but Japan’s convenient digital infrastructure quickly made it feel like home. Academically, TMU offers exceptional laboratory facilities for my research on wasp taxonomy and DNA barcoding, seamlessly bridging my field surveys in Vietnam with advanced analytical work. Balancing a heavy research workload with daily life in a foreign country can be challenging, but I actively manage this by stepping away for nature treks to recharge. Overall, TMU provides a fantastic, supportive environment for both academic and personal growth, and I highly recommend it to any prospective graduate student seeking to elevate their research and connect with a global community.
